| What is a Digital Certificate |
|
A digital certificate is the electronic
equivalent of a passport or a trade license. A trusted Certification
Authority, such as Comtrust, issues the digital certificates after
necessary verification of identity of individuals and organizations.
When Comtrust issues a digital certificate, it verifies that the
owner of the certificate is not claiming a false identity. |

| What is the importance of Certification? |
|
As Internet and web technologies are becoming
more and more popular, so is the need to ensure security of data.
Internet protocols and technologies are designed to be open in
nature. Data travels freely over the Internet, seeking best possible
route to reach its destination. Therefore, unless proper measures
are adopted, data can be intercepted and altered by anybody
accessing the Internet. While many organizations deploy firewalls
and other access control mechanisms to improve security of data and
transactions, these technologies have not proved to be sufficient. |

|
To address security issues, Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI) technologies have been developed in recent
years. PKI is a system of digital certificates, data encryption and
trusted third party certification and registration authorities.
Until recently Public Key Infrastructure technologies were not
available in the Middle East. Comtrust has filled up this gap by
setting up a fully integrated Public Key Infrastructure in the
Middle East. The UAE Cabinet of Ministers has recognized Comtrust as
the Certification Authority (CA) for the United Arab Emirates. If
